Change of Leadership at Beverly and Addison Gilbert, Winchester Hospitals

Phil Cormier and Dale Lodge to succeed retiring Denis Conroy and Kevin Smith

October 28, 2014

BURLINGTON, MA – October 28, 2014 – The Lahey Health Board of Trustees announced today that Denis Conroy, CEO of Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals, and Kevin Smith, CEO of Winchester Hospital, will both retire effective January 15, 2015. Phil Cormier, the current chief operating officer at Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals, will assume the role of chief executive officer for Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals, and Dale Lodge, the current president and chief executive officer of the Winchester Physician Associates and former Winchester Hospital CEO, will take over CEO duties again at Winchester.

“We are enormously grateful to both Denis and Kevin for their leadership and their substantial contributions to the strength of our system. They are leaving a legacy of uncompromising patient and work place focus that will continue for years to come. We wish them tremendous happiness,” said Howard Grant, JD, MD, President and CEO of Lahey Health.

“And we are extremely pleased that Phil Cormier and Dale Lodge will serve as CEOs moving forward. We have every confidence that their experiences are the right fits to lead these hospitals forward as we continue to build an integrated system committed to delivering high-quality affordable, community-based care.”
A well respected leader within the Northeast and Lahey Health communities, Cormier has extensive institutional knowledge, having worked in various leadership positions at Beverly Hospital. He also brings a broad industry perspective given the time he has spent in senior management at other health care systems.

“I’ve learned so much from Denis Conroy while serving under him as COO, and am honored to take the reins of Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals from him,” said incoming CEO, and current COO, Phil Cormier. “The Lahey model of integrated, community-based care is one that I’ve seen work very effectively first hand. I’m excited to continue the good work of Denis to ensure that high quality care is available right here in the community where people live and work.”

Lodge served for ten years as President and Chief Executive Officer at Winchester Hospital, earning national recognition for the hospital. For the past five years, he’s been serving as President and CEO of the Winchester Physician Associates.

“When Kevin succeeded me as CEO of Winchester Hospital, I was confident I was leaving the hospital in capable hands.  Kevin has been a steady leader for Winchester Hospital, and set our organization up for great success,” said incoming CEO Dale Lodge. “I’m honored to take on this role again, especially now that Winchester is affiliated with Lahey Health, and to build on the great results Kevin and his team achieved.”
